When I first got diagnosed with autism, I didn’t know the difference between a “person with autism” and an “autistic person” or why the puzzle piece wasn’t a good symbol. As a friend often says, people can’t read your mind. That works both ways, as in people can’t read your mind and you can’t read theirs. When you have an invisible disability like autism, it’s also a challenge in that employers, friends, family, or just the world in general doesn’t know that you might need extra help. So, it’s important to advocate for yourself and ask for what you need to make your life a little easier.
